Iintroductory course

Learn to kayak with us.

We will again be organizing introductory kayak courses for new members and interested parties in 2025.
The course consists of six lessons and here you will learn the basics of kayaking in a fun and interactive way with a group of up to 8 participants.
In 2025 we will start again in April with the introductory lessons. Exact dates will follow. Always on Wednesday evening or Saturday afternoon.

Lessons are 2 hours each time. Lessons are taught by our team of experienced instructors.
You can sail with your own boat or use one of our club boats.
We assume that you can swim and we wear life jackets during the lesson.

The cost of the introductory course is 60 euros, if you become a member afterwards you will receive a 30 euro discount on your membership. KVS members can participate for free.
The lesson will take place subject to weather conditions. In case of bad weather, another date will be planned.

Your participation is guaranteed after confirmation and payment of your registration.
If the group is full, we will put you on the waiting list or you can participate in the next group.

Lesson content

The following skills are taught during the lessons:

- Correct holding and use of the paddle
- Sailing straight ahead and sailing backwards
- Making turns, forwards and backwards (Bow strokes)
- Braking and making an emergency stop
- Entry & exit at a low side and a high side
- Low paddle rests
- Make a raft
- Move sideways

And of course you will get the chance to try out various kayak types and species that are available at our club.

After the six lessons you will be able to sail independently and you are welcome to participate in the tours that we organize for our members in Nieuw-west and in the region.

Should you decide to become a member of our canoe club, which we would of course very much like, you will receive half of the course fee as a discount on your membership.
